INSPIRE Conference 2012: Draft programme published

The outline programme of the INSPIRE Conference 2012, Istanbul, 23 - 27th June 2012 has been published on the INSPIRE Conference site. With 20 dedicated workshop, 48 parallel sessions, and more than 200 presenters the INSPIRE Conference 2012 promises to be the biggest event to date relating to the INSPIRE Directive.
Take advantage of the early registration, which has been extended until the 18th May.

New report: A Conceptual Model for Developing Interoperability Specifications in Spatial Data Infrastructures

The report 'A Conceptual Model for Developing Interoperability Specifications in Spatial Data Infrastructures', has been published on the INSPIRE site .

The report provides a comprehensive overview of the data components of spatial data infrastructures and describes how to achieve interoperability by developinginteroperability targets for each theme according to which data then has to be transformed. The report explains the common principles and methodology for developing these interoperability targets.
The report is a valuable reference guide for decision makers, public administrations and scientists for the definition and implementation of data harmonization frameworks.

Exchange Forum on Public – Private Partnership for SDI

The JRC is co-organising an Exchange Forum on Public – Private Partnership for SDI during the Geospatial World Forum 2012: The Premier Geospatial Industry Event taking place 23 – 27 April, 2012 RAI Convention Centre, Amsterdam. The Geospatial World Forum brings together the industry leaders from the public sector, the private sector, academia and research.

Ministerial level participation at Conference Opening includes Melanie Schultz van Haegen, Hon’ble Minister of Infrastructure & Environment, The Netherlands and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, 11th President, Republic of India.

The event is expected to attract over 1500 participants. The focus is on end user industries:– Land, Defence & Intelligence, Water Resources/Utilities, Business Enterprise, Construction & Infrastructure, Mining & Exploration, Governance & Planning, Environmental Management

The Exchange Forum on Public-Private Participation will take place on the 26-27 April.

Consultation on the EU environment policy priorities for 2020: Towards a 7th EU Environment Action Programme

Environment Action Programmes have guided the development of EU environment policy since the early seventies. During this period, environment legislation was consolidated and completed to cover almost all environmental media, with the exception of soil. With the 6th EAP in its final year, the Commission continues to pursue an ambitious environment policy aimed at ensuring a high level of environmental protection and guided by the principles enshrined in the Treaty of precaution, prevention, rectifying pollution at source and 'polluter pays'.

Against this background, the Commission is considering how a 7th Environment Action Programme could best provide added value in the rapidly evolving environment policy context.

The purpose of this consultation is to collect the views of all stakeholders, at EU and national level, and the public at large on the environment policy priorities up to 2020. Informed opinions are sought on the priority areas to be addressed and on the most effective tools for the EU to employ in addressing the challenges described in the consultation document.
