Acronym SeaZone
Details
Mission and Objectives SeaZone's objectives are to develop and support a range of digital marine mapping products to improve the quality of decision making in the marine environment and coastal zone. SeaZone creates application neutral marine geographic information from source which is: - Comparable with digital land mapping - Suitable as input to SDIs & geospatial databases.

Main Activities With Hydrospatial, SeaZone's primary marine GI dataset, SeaZone is developing new bathymetry from digital or captured surveys where available, is extending data coverage overseas, and is providing output to GML and ‘Change Only Updates’ for improved delivery to customers to facilitate better geospatial data management. SeaZone's Coastal Mapping Improvement Programme CMIP) follows on from the ICZMap Pilot Project involving the UK Hydrographic office, Ordnance Survey GB and Britsih Geological Survey. It is identifying issues regarding harmonising physical and abstract topographic features in the coastal zone and has developed a staged methodology and tools to address these issues. SeaZone is creating a harmonised dataset for the coastal zone of Great Britain and is ensuring all process allows data to maintained and updated easily. The approach and tools developed by SeaZone is applicable in Europe and farther afield. SeaZone provides tools to improve the integration of meteorological and oceanographic datasets with geographic information and GI systems.
