The information accessible on this area of the INSPIRE site has been provided by Spatial Data Interest Communities (SDICs) and Legally Mandated Organisation (LMOs) via the ongoing Call for Expression of Interest for INSPIRE development.

The information includes:

Description
SDIC Title Soil Geochemistry
Acronym IGME_EL
Details
Mission and Objectives IGME has its own soil projects and participates also in the EU co-financed GS Soil project, and other international projects. Mission & Objectives: The establishment of the European Soil Strategy has enforced the link between soil information and geo-information. This has generated the need for interoperable, accessible and harmonised soil datasets for the EU. GS Soil aims, through state-of-the-art methodologies and best practice examples, to improve harmonisation of national datasets and make them more accessible and exploitable. Therefore, it contributes to the INSPIRE implementation with specific reference to a cluster of data themes on nature conservation. The main objective of the GS Soil is to: (1) involve stakeholders and soil data providers; (2) share datasets and best practices; (3) improve and stimulate exploitation and (4) the re-use of information on soils. The GEMAS project aims to establish a harmonised geochemical database for agricultural and grazing land soil in support of the REACH directive, but also to environmental and mineral exploration policies.
Mandate To establish interoperable and harmonised soil geochemical datasets for Europe
Formal Mandate European Commission
Main Activities Compilation of soil geochemical information and dissemination through a dedicated portal
SDIC URL http://www.igme.gr/portal/
Membership Participating organisation to GS Soil, and the EuroGeoSurveys Soil Geochemical Project with the acronym GEMAS (Geochemistry of Agricultural and Grazing land soil).
Typology Thematic
Comments DATA SPECIFICATION ON SOIL Soil parent material: It is limited to only some sedimentary rocks. The list should be expanded to include other rock types, and essentially be linked to Data Specification on Geology, i.e., sedimentary rocks (e.g., chalk, limestone), igneous rocks (e.g., Granitic rock, Gabbroic rock, Basaltic rock, Rhyolitic rock, Porphyry, Ultramafic igneous rock, Volcanic ash, Tuffite, Other plutonic rock, Other volcanic rock, Other igneous rock, etc.) and metamorphic rocks (e.g., gneiss, schist, slate, marble, and other metamorphic rock). Heavy metals: This term should be changed to Toxic metals or better Toxic Chemical Elements, and apart from arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, mercury, molybdenum, nickel and zinc, the list should include antimony, beryllium, selenium, uranium and vanadium.
