Mandate The Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) is part of the Mines and Energy segment of the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI)in the State of Queensland, Australia.

Main Activities Acquire, interpret, provide and promote geoscience and resource information to improve the understanding of the geology and minerals and energy resource potential of the State of Queensland. GSQ provides fundamental geological information for government stewardship of mineral and energy resources and provides industry with modern and historical geoscientific information to support and encourage exploration for the discovery of new mineral and energy resources. GSQ information and services also support the mineral, coal, extractive, coal seam gas, petroleum, gas, carbon dioxide capture and storage and geothermal exploration industries. GSQ carries out geological mapping and associated cartographic services, mineral and petroleum resource assessment, maintains and updates geoscience and resource databases, including drill core management, promotes the mineral and petroleum prospectivity of the State and contributes to the policy and land use planning initiatives that impact on the mineral, petroleum and extractive sectors. GSQ has strong collaborative links with all other Federal, State and Territory Geological Surveys to continue and improve geoscientific research, marketing, promotion, new technologies, and information management.
