Mission and Objectives The General Management of Nature Preservation assumes the responsibilities of Nature Preservation on those matters not transferred to the Autonomous Communities, serving as the coordinator between these and the European Union. In terms of cartography, the General Management of Nature Preservation carries out basic thematic cartography on the natural environment, especially on forest matters and on nature preservation, depending upon the Nature Data Bank (BDN). This body edits cartographic publications and develops georeferenced digital data bases.

Main Activities •Forest Map of Spain on a scale of 1:200,000. •Forest Map of Spain digitalized to a scale of 1:50,000. •Third National Forest Inventory. Provincial publications apart from forest statistics •Natural Spaces and Sensitive Areas. The digital cartographic base corresponding to the National Protected Spaces, Special Protection Areas of Birds (ZEPAS), those ascribed to the RAMSAR international agreement and the new Places of Community Importance (LIC’S) have been kept updated. Digitalization on a scale of 1:50,000.
