Details
Mission and Objectives Manifold.net is the world's leading GIS software provider. We outsell on a unit volume basis all other GIS vendors put together. Whatever the EC does with INSPIRE, most users will end up using Manifold software. Our objective is to provide perfect GIS software that integrates all GIS, CAD, vector data, raster imagery, raster surface, cartographic, DBMS and graphics arts capabilities GIS users want, and to provide that at such a low price, under $300 per license, that anyone can afford it. At the same time Manifold will provide terabyte scale data ability so that users can scale from ordinary individuals and very small organizations up to the very largest enterprises and government organizations. We believe that by creating such a powerful tool and offering it at such a low price we can broaden GIS and geospatial use in general from a small, static niche into mainstream horizontal usage.
Mandate Manifold.net is a commercial, for-profit company.
Formal Mandate None
Main Activities Manifold creates GIS software using the latest technology. More modern, mainstream technology allows Manifold to deliver GIS products which are more reliable, far more feature rich and more powerful, all at a dramatically lower cost than possible with older technology. Manifold provides GIS software for individuals, organizations, consultants, developers and enterprises, ranging from casual, personal use to the largest government or commercial enterprises.

Comments If the EC fails to provide public access to public data, you become the enemy of the people and they will use the power of Internet to get around you. Between new technologies like Manifold, Google Earth, Virtual Earth and the emergence of self-organzized user efforts like Open Streets, the era of centralized state monopoly over the people's ability to see and use their own world is coming to an end. We strongly recommend that INSPIRE consider how to provide open access to public data for the public. This is also economically sound, because without much more open access the EC will never develop European alternatives to the US companies that dominate geospatial markets in general and GIS specifically.
