Mission and Objectives The architecture of the Italian system resembles the EEA/EIONET model, in order to attain the following objectives : to take advantage of experiences, organisational and technical concepts, standards and tools developed in EIONET framework; to promote the Italian participation in European initiatives aiming at building an effective European environmental information system; to ensure a better integration between the European environmental information system and the Italian one, thus streamlining data flow between European and Italian Systems.This framework of knowledge management allows Italy, through Environmental Protection Agency (APAT), to interact with other environmental information systems.
Mandate The National Environmental Information System is a project having the aim to delineate a strategic line by a National Environmental Information System. The system is able to operate on environmental monitoring and collecting data for the environmental phenomena understanding, and it intends to support the decision makers from local to national level.

Previous Experience relevant for INSPIRE development SINAnet provides technical support to the Ministry for the possible follow up of the INSPIRE Directive and is directly interested in being involved as the formal responsible for several relevant programmes, such as production and collection of national data sets and database management or the national geothematic cartography.
