The information includes:

Description
SDIC Title Spatial Data Infrastructure for Statistics
Acronym SDI_Statistics
Details
Mission and Objectives Explore the use of the INSPIRE directive to design and build a prototype for an efficient SDI to describe monitor, analyse and report on both socio-economic and environmental geo-statistics.
Mandate The consortium consists of representatives from the NSI’s of Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. Each with the mandate of their respective organisations.
Formal Mandate None
Main Activities 1.A network of excellence for geo-statistics 2.An European pilot project for geo-statistics 3.A professional forum for geo-statistics
SDIC URL None (yet)
Membership 1.Statistics Sweden 2.Statistics Finland 3.Statistics Norway 4.Statistics Denmark (In cooperation with National Land Survey Denmark)
Typology Regional Thematic
Comments 1.The consortium members are major users, producers and coordinators of data aggregated to and analysed with national and European grid systems. 2.The consortium members have, based on deaces of work in this area contributed actively to the draft for the EuroGrid. 3.The consortium members are key producers of socioekonomic and environmental data based on high resolution geographical information (Adress, building, realestate units etc.) that may be aggregated to grids for spatial analysis.

Previous Experience relevant for INSPIRE development The consortium members have during the last decade have, jointly or separately. participated actively in the discourse towards a SDI for Europe through: 1.Methodological Issues Involving the Integration of Geography and Statistics. (1997-2001 (currently dormant) 2.EU/Eurostat: Working Party: “Geographical Information Systems for Statistic” Joint meeting with National Statistical Agencies and National mapping Agencies 3.The Tandem projects (A study funded by the commission to propose a system of small statistical areas and small area statistics for Europe)(2001-2003) 4.Workshop on European Reference Grids at the European Institute for Environment and Sustainability at the JRC in ISPRA 2004, October 27-29, 2003 5.The Nordic Forum for Geo-statistics (2000-present) 6.Expert reports 7.Professional papers 8.Active participation in and contribution to international conferences in this field
Primary Business To provide local regional and national government agencies with qualified spatial data and analysis to describe the natural and artificial driving forces and report on observed pressures, states, impact on national and international man-environmental systems to serve as a ground for the design and implementation of rational response.
Environmental application domains Socioeconomic data are essential for the understanding of “driving forces” that provide pressure on the environment. Some National statistical institutes are also responsible for the processing (from data capture to analysis and reporting) of environmental data often on assignment from national environmental agencies (e.g. Sweden).
