Mission and Objectives The group is part of the activity carried out under the Finnish Council for Geographic Information (FCGI) (PATINE in Finnish) to implement the GI strategy developed by the FCGI for the time period 2005-2010. The main focus of the group is on the development of interoperable GI-related network services as part of the Finnish SDI.
Mandate The Finnish Council for Geographic Information (FCGI) has been nominated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which is also the national contact organisation for the INSPIRE process. This group (TIPY) has been established by the FCGI to coordinate activities related to the development of the GI network services as part of the Finnish SDI strategy.

Main Activities Developing the national vision of the ideal infrastructure of GI-related network services in Finland; Supervising the development of national recommendations for GI modelling, data transfer and network service interfaces; Supporting the development of the national Geo-portal and integrated map browsing services; Monitoring the national developments in the context of the Finnish SDI; Training and education on the relevant standards and technologies.

Previous Experience relevant for INSPIRE development In Finland the first concrete process to develop interoperable GI infrastructure was initiated already in late 80's. The work of the TIPY group can be seen as based on that early experience.
