Formal Mandate General Directorate for Environmental Protection and 16 Regional Directorates for Environmental Protection were established by the act of 3 October 2008 on the Provision of Information on the Environment and its Protection, Public Participation in Environmental Protection and Environmental Impact Assessments (Official Journal of the Laws of 7 November 2008).
The Act lays down:
1) the principles and procedures to be followed in the matters of:
a) the provision of information on the environment and its protection,
b) environmental impact assessments,
c) a transboundary impact on the environment;
2) the principles of public participation in environmental protection;
3) the administration authorities competent in the matters referred to in point 1.
Main Activities Main activities of General Directorate for Environmental Protection are managing the Nature Conservation Forms in Poland, Natura 2000 sites, Species Protection, Central Register of Nature Conservation Forms and Clearing- House Mechanism (CHM). Regional Directorates manage Nature Conservation Forms in Voivodships. General and Regional Directorates are providers of reference information about Nature Protection Areas in Poland.
