Comments SML is embedded in a broader, worldwide infrastructure, the World Weather Watch of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), and as such, gives European access to world-wide observations, including new types of observations e.g. from new satellite instruments e.g. from NOAA, NASA, JMA etc.
SML has a communication network used for international and regional data exchange.
This is a highly developed and reliable system which is used for operational (daily, hourly and even more frequent) weather, related, health and safety bulletins.
This is also a highly interoperatable system of metadata, data, protocola and formats which can only be changed trough existing formal WMO process.
