UK National Air Quality Monitoring Network - AURN (Automatic Urban and Rural Network)
Formal Mandate Data Collection for CAFE LMO - Bureau Veritas is mandated under contract with the UK Government to technically design, implement, operate and manage the UK National Air Quality Monitoring Network (AURN – Automatic Urban and Rural Network) and collect, store, validate and disseminate data to a variety of users as well as provide network information to the public.
Main Activities Operation, Management, Data collection, Validation, Storage and Dissemination as well as Public Information. The AURN monitors air quality across the UK through a variety of sites located at strategic locations which continuously capture ambient air quality levels for 2008/50/EC air quality pollutants. The information produced by this network plays a vital role in assisting the UK Government to: a) comply with European Air Quality Directives; b) monitor progress in relation to the National Air Quality Strategy targets; and c) provide relevant information to the public. It is important to know where these sites are located, which air quality conditions they represent, and which pollutants they measure. Therefore, on-line provision of maps show the position of the automatic monitoring stations of the AURN network and their relationship with the local environment. Detailed site information provided to the public includes 1. Location data (Grid references, site address, site photos, site location map); 2. Site type (Roadside, urban background, rural, etc); 3. Detailed site description of the local environment; and 4. Pollutants measured.
